can you legitimize a child on your own and then get a lawyer to fight custody issues?

i want to legitimize my son and try and get custody. his mom will not fight the legitimization but she will fight the custody. i have talked to a few lawyers it will be around 2000 just to legitimize him i can do that part for about 200 on my own. i need as much help as possible. if you have any advice on how to win the custody part too i will greatly appreciate it.

Are you in georgia? My husband went through the SAME thing! E-mail me and I can tell you every step we took. Bottom line though you want to present both at the same time. That way when she stands up and says “yes that is the father, i am sure”, and then she stands up and says “No he can’t have visitation”, she looks like an idiot. You have to do them together, or your custody case will not be as strong.


Judges usually side with the mom on things and dont want to take the kids from the mom. There is a website for the northwest justice project that gives alot of answers on custody issues and things you need to prove that a parent is unfit. Google the website u can probably find it and the info may help even if you are not living in the northwest
